Crystals

Crystals are a core gameplay mechanic in Vault Hunters, serving as the primary item required to access the Vaults. Players must craft and attune these Crystals at the Vault Altar, then place them onto a Vault Portal to generate access to a Vault. Each Crystal generates a unique set of Rooms, Themes, and Modifiers within the Vault dimension.

Obtaining Crystals

Crystals are created using the Vault Altar, which is crafted as part of the quest chain. To craft a Crystal, players must right-click a Vault Rock on the Altar and fulfil the Altar recipe requirements. These requirements typically include various overworld items, such as mob drops, crops, ores, and other blocks.

Once the requirements have been met, a Redstone signal must be applied to the Altar in order for the Crystal to be generated and made lootable by the player.

Upon completion, the player receives an un-attuned Vault Crystal, ready for use in a Vault Portal Frame.

Customising the Crystal

Crystals can be upgraded at the Crystal Workbench using Seals, Augments, Catalysts, Inscriptions, and Capstones. These upgrades allow the player to better customise the Vault experience before placing the Crystal onto the Portal.
