It starts here!

Now that you have your first Vault Crystal, its finally time to start your first vault! This page will guide you through everything you need as well as some tips for your first vault.

Healing in the Vault

Inside The Vault, you will not naturally regain health. Instead there are two primary ways of getting your health back. Through the Heal ability and through Vault Vials. Vials are potions with charges that heals a small amount. These charges can be regained while in the Vault. The method of recharging the vial depends on which vial you craft:

- Pacifist - Over time

- Slaughterer- By Killing Mobs

- Goblins- By Looting Chests

Your first Skill Point

When following the quest line, you will be rewarded with 1 free skill point. There are many skills that are useful, but there are three that are all equally good for your first vault:

- Dash - Propels you a distance in the direction you are facing!

- Heal - Heals you for an amount of hitpoints.

- Vein Miner - Allows you to mine multiple blocks at once!

While all of these are great, some are better for certain peoples play style. Like fighting and being aggressive? Then you are probably going to be hit a lot, heal would be best for you then. Do you just want to try and get as much loot as possible? Then dash might help you get around easier, making looting much faster. or are you perhaps doing your first sky vault? Vein miner is great for that, getting multiple blocks fast and easy

Inventory management

For the first Vault, inventory management can be hard, seeing as you don't have backpacks of the bat. But there is some things that can make it easier.

When killing mobs inside the vault, they will drop soul shards. These take up quite a bit of space, so i would recommend a Shard Pouch. This pouch will automatically store soul shards when picked and has nearly infinite storage. This does cost an ender pearl, but you should have gotten one from the quest that gave you the Vial.

Also through the quests, you will be given a pouch with a pickup upgrade and a void upgrade. This can be used to void stuff you don't really want, or you can use it as a shulker box. Speaking of, you also get a shulker box when doing the Vault Crystal quest as well. Some chests in the vault also has shulker shells, so bring wood to make more!

Armour, Weapons and Tools

For the first Vault, you could use any of the vanilla armour sets, though iron is recommended. Vanilla amour has also been nerfed to make Vault Hunters Armour feel better, so diamond and netherite is hard to gather as well as not that rewarding in terms of total amour. Which is why iron is recommended.

As for Tools, i'd bring a Pickaxe, Shovel and an Axe. While the Pickaxe is the only one you should definitely have, the others are really nice as well for clearing blocks in you way. You can also bring a bucket of water with you. The water bucket is nice for either climbing or dampening your falls (player skill required).

For Weapons, i'd recommend not bringing any at all. Why? Because when entering your first vault, a quest will be completed, rewarding you with a Vault Sword and a Vault Shield. These are better than their vanilla counterpart in every way. The sword deals the same amount of damage as a netherite sword on the LOWEST rolls. And the shield can either have higher block chance than the vanilla shield, or it can give the player thorns damage, hurting mobs if they attack you. A good thing to mention as well is to not use vanilla shields as they have been reworked in Vault Hunters. They will not black any and all damage that comes at them, but instead have a small chance to block a single hit of damage. For example, the vanilla shield has a block chance of 5%. Meaning there is a 5% chance to block a melee attack, ranged attack, fall damage, kinetic damage, poison damage etc.

Enchanting

Vanilla has a lot of broken stuff, but the most broken of all is the protection and sharpness enchantments. Which is why these enchantments have been removed. But to make up for that, enchanting you gear with any other enchantment has become one hundred times more easier. The Vault Enchanter lets you pick any enchantment that gear piece / tool can have, and lets you enchant it for only 1 exp level and 5 emeralds. Feather falling on you boots is 100% the best to take with you.
