The Animal Pen is a utility block that allows players to store, breed, and harvest resources from large numbers of mobs in a compact way.
Usage
- Insert mobs by right-clicking the pen with an Animal Jar containing the mob.
- Sneak (Shift as the standard Keybind) to check whether mobs inside are ready to be harvested.
- Breed mobs by right-clicking with the appropriate food.
- All food items used in the interaction are consumed.
- Breeding produces up to 50% additional mobs based on the current mob count, capped by the number of food items provided (maximum 64 per use).
- Examples:
- With 50 mobs inside and 20 food provided: all 20 food are consumed, resulting in 60 mobs (50 + 10 extra).
- With 100 mobs inside and 64 food provided: all 64 food are consumed, resulting in 150 mobs (100 + 50 extra).
- With 150 mobs inside and 64 food provided: all 64 food are consumed, resulting in 214 mobs (150 + 64 extra).
Harvesting
- Resources can be harvested directly inside the pen.
- Two methods:
- Killing with a sword – standard mob drops, with effects from Looting, Fire Aspect, etc.
- Using specific tools – e.g.:
- Bottles or Shears for Bees
- Shears for Sheep
- Buckets for Chickens (eggs) and Cows (milk)
Supported Mobs
- Nearly all mobs can be inserted into the pen.
- Breeding is only possible if the mob itself can normally be bred in "vanilla" gameplay.
Automation
- A block can be inserted by right-clicking the pen and will serve as the floor. This is purely visual and does not affect speed.
- The pen can be automated with systems such as Modular Routers.
Notes
- Multiple Animal Jars can be used on one Pen
- Efficient automation allows large-scale farming of mob drops within a small footprint.
