When you are ready to enter a vault you have a variety of rocks you can place on a altar to generate a crystal. Vault rocks can change the type of vault you can create.
The Vault rocks available are:

Vault Rock | This gives you a standard crystal which can be modified with Catalysts, Augments, Seals and Capstones | Dropped for mining vault stone. This is increased with fortune | ||

Plunderer's Rock | This will give the player +25% loot from chests and 10% from ores however the player will not get XP | This can be crafted by the player | ||

Cake Rock | This will generate the player a cake hunt vault | Found in Vendoors, Black Market and rare bounties | ||

Chaos Rock | This will add 30 random modifiers to the crystal | Found in Vendoors, Black Markets and rare bounties | ||

Raid Rock | This will generate the player a vault with a single raid room inside. From the raid room you have a chance of getting a infinite raid rock | Rare chance of being a reward from doing a raid room in a vault | ||

Challengers Rock | This will stack ascension for each completed vault. When the vault is failed the player will receive embers based on the stacks of ascension achieved to unlock unique transmogs and titles | This can be crafted by the player | ||

Trial Chambers | This will give the player the oppertunity to test builds however it contains no loot. If you die within this vault you suffer no cost or durability damage | This can be crafted by the player | ||

Heralds Rock | This will allow the player to fight the end boss of vault hunters known as the Herald. | This is acquired by collecting all Artifacts | ||

Wardens Rock | This provides the vault with the afterlife modifier however the vault cannon be modified | This can be crafted by the player |
