The Spirit Extractor:

The Spirit Extractor is a Vault Workstations used to recover a player's gear after dying inside a Vault.

Mechanics

  • If the player has crafted a Spirit Extractor and dies inside a Vault, their Spirit will appear at their spawn point in the overworld.
  • The Spirit can only be picked up if the player's offhand is empty:
    • If holding an item in the offhand, the Spirit displays the message: "You can’t pick me up with that in offhand."
    • If the Spirit is held and another item is placed into the offhand, it displays: "You can’t hold me with that in offhand."
  • Upon right-clicking the Spirit Extractor while holding the Spirit, it is placed inside the Extractor.
  • The Extractor then allows recovery of the player’s gear in exchange for a Vault Gold cost that scales with level and items.

Recovery Costs

Recovering gear is partially based on the players level. The Multiplayer rescue discount is applied at the end.

Multiplayer

  • In multiplayer (while in a party) the Spirit spawns inside the Vault at the death location rather than at the overworld spawn.
  • Teammates can pick it up and throw it through the exit portal.
  • If the Spirit passes through the portal, the recovery cost is discounted by a random factor between 30% and 90%.

Debt System

Also known as Davey jones the Locker is a mechanic to be put in debt with the spirit extractor returning your items, once in debt you will receive a modifier preventing xp gain.

Summary

  1. Die in a Vault β†’ a Spirit spawns (at overworld spawn in singleplayer, inside the Vault in multiplayer).
  2. Pick up the Spirit with an empty offhand.
  3. Carry the Spirit to a placed Spirit Extractor.
  4. Right-click the Extractor while holding the Spirit to insert it.
  5. Pay the required Vault Gold and item costs β†’ the gear is recovered into your inventory.

If the cost cannot be paid, the gear remains locked or must be stored in the Locker with debt.
