The Vault Portal is the primary gateway for players to enter Vaults, the procedurally generated dungeons at the core of Vault Hunters 3. This portal enables progression, loot acquisition, and boss challenges throughout the modpack.

Portal Frame

To construct a Vault Portal, players must create a rectangular frame using Vault Stone (or Polished Vault Stone). The frame follows the standard Nether Portal dimensions (minimum 4Γ—5, maximum 23Γ—23).

Frame Block:

  • Vault Stone – Mined from the Overworld beneath Y-level 0.
  • Can be polished with stonecutters for aesthetic purposes.

Activation Block

Place a Vault Crystal into the portal frame to activate it. This crystal determines the Vault’s difficulty, objectives, and modifiers.

Steps to Activate:

  1. Build the frame using Vault Stone.
  2. Craft a Vault Crystal using the Vault Altar (see below).
  3. Right-click the centre of the portal frame with the completed crystal.
  4. The portal will ignite with a swirling animation and become enterable.

Entering the Vault

Once the portal is active:

  • Right-click or walk into the portal to teleport into the Vault Dimension.
  • Each Vault is unique, time-limited, and randomly generated.
  • Players must make a vault party to enter the same portal. This can be complete using Player Commands.

Portal Rules & Behaviour

  • A 25-minute timer begins upon exiting the first vault room(Starter Room).
  • Once everyone who enters the vault exits the vault will break and a new one can be placed in its location.
  • Each crystal can only be used once.

Related Mechanics

  • Vault Objectives – Vary based on the type of crystal used (e.g., Boss Kill, Scavenger Hunt).
  • Modifiers – Affect loot, mobs, and challenge level.
  • Catalysts – Used to alter or reroll modifiers on a Vault Crystal.
  • Vault Difficulty – Vault content scales based on player level and Vault Difficulty set.
