Status Effects

From Vault Hunters Official Wiki

Status Effects

Status Effects are temporary conditions that affect players or mobs in Vault Hunters. They can originate from Abilities, Trinkets, On-Hit Effects, or Environmental Hazards. Most status effects have levels that scale their potency or duration.

Physical & Combat Effects:

Stun

Immobilizes mobs completely. Visually indicated by stars above their head. Prevents movement and certain attack animations.

Shocking

Knocks mobs backwards upon hit, effectively a short-range knockback or push effect.

Vulnerability

Applied by abilities like Taunt. Each level of Vulnerability causes affected mobs to take +10% damage per level. Stacks additionally with other damage modifiers.

Battle Cry Stacks

Generated by certain Battle Cry abilities:

  • Each Horde mob: +1 stack
  • Assassin mobs: +3 stacks
  • Tanks, Elites, and Bosses: +10 stacks

Used to empower specific Battle Cry effects or damage boosts.

Strength

Increases the player's base attack damage by +3 per level. Affects melee and certain AD based attacks.

Cold & Frost Effects:

Chilled

Reduces mob movement speed. Acts as a precursor to Frozen or Hypothermia when stacked.

Frozen

Completely stops mob movement for the duration of the effect. Often applied by abilities or modifiers linked to frost or glacial damage.

Glacial Imprisonment

Encases mobs in ice blocks. Attacking the ice can:

  • Instantly kill weaker mobs
  • Deal massive damage to elites or bosses

Frostbite

Glacial-Imprisons a mob and releases a Frost Nova when that mob is struck.

Hypothermia

Inflicts **1 damage every 3 seconds** and permanently applies the Chilled effect to the mob.

Poison & Debuff Effects

Poisoned

Applies damage over time based on the Poison level. Each level increases the frequency or intensity of poison ticks.

On-Hit Effects

Special effects that have a chance to trigger when hitting a mob. They do not trigger on critical (jump) hits.

Examples include:

  • Clouds
  • Chaining
  • Double Damage
  • Sweeping
  • Stunning
  • Shocking
  • Lucky Hit

Spread Mechanics: Some On-Hit effects and abilities can spread them to nearby mobs or trigger other effects. Lucky Hits are usually exceptions and cannot be spread.

Other Effects

Charmed

Abilities like Charm or the temporal modifier Charming (Legacy in 3.19.5) apply this effect.

  • Charmed mobs attack other non-charmed mobs
  • Deal a percentage of your attack damage
  • Gain increased movement speed
  • Will not attack the player

Invisible

Abilities like Spirit Walk or the Shadow Cloak trinket make the player invisible to mobs. Mobs will not detect the player until a noise is made, such as:

  • Breaking or placing blocks
  • Attacking
  • Opening chests

Movement & Utility Effects

Movement Speed

Increases player movement speed. Each 20% movement speed equals 1 level of the Speed effect (and vice versa).

Haste

Each level of Haste increases mining speed by 20%. Stacks additively with other speed effects.
